Founded in 1987, ASP specializes in infection prevention solutions for healthcare, offering advanced products, technologies, and workflows for medical sterilization and disinfection.4 In 2019, ASP was acquired by Fortive Corporation, a global a global technology company based in Washington.5 Headquartered in Irvine, California, ASP employs over 1,700 individuals across 42 countries.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, ASP reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, in October and November 2023, ASP detected unusual activity within its network environment stemming from cybersecurity incidents involving two separate unauthorized third parties.1 Upon becoming aware of the issue, ASP launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, ASP learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized individual between January 25, 2023, and November 6, 2023. As a result, ASP began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On September 3, 2024, ASP concluded this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license of state issued identification number
- Passport number
- Birth certificate number
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Health insurance information
On October 3, 2024, ASP began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, ASP is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
