Connally Memorial Medical Center Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Connally Memorial Medical Center announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, Connally Memorial Medical Center recently became aware of unauthorized access to an employee’s email account. As a result, Connally Memorial Medical Center launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, on July 29, 2024, Connally Memorial Medical Center learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized individual. As a result, Connally Memorial Medical Center began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. This review is currently ongoing. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information (e.g., medical record number, patient ID or account number, diagnosis and treatment information, doctor or facility name and/or date of service)
  • Health insurance information
  • Medicare or Medicaid number

 

On September 27, 2024, Connally Memorial Medical Center posted notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Connally Memorial Medical Center plans to mail data breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
