M+R Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating M&R Strategic Services, Inc., which does business as M+R, regarding its recent data breach. The M+R data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

M+R is a nonprofit support organization based in the United States. Founded in 1991, M+R offers a wide range of support services to nonprofit organizations such as fundraising and supporter engagement, movement building and issue advocacy, and message and brand development.2 Over the years M+R has provided assistance to a variety of causes spanning fights against Big Tobacco and Big Oil, marriage equality, justice reform, reproductive rights, immigration, housing, Darfur, indigenous rights, and livable wages.3 A remote-first organization, M+R has offices in Washington D.C., New York City, Oakland, California, and employs over 50 individuals.2

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, M+R reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. In the form breach notice, M+R does not elaborate on the nature of the security incident that impacted its systems. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number

 

On September 20, 2024, M+R began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. A link to the form breach notification letter that M+R filed with the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is below.
