Hanon Systems Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Hanon Systems reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on July 21, 2024, Hanon Systems was subject to a ransomware event. 1 As a result, Hanon Systems launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Hanon Systems determined that certain information was compromised by an unauthorized individual and held under the threat of ransom, including sensitive information belonging to current and former employees. As a result, Hanon Systems began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Contact information

 

As a result of the data breach, Hanon Systems began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Hanon Systems is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
