Founded in 2015, TradeZero offers retail investors commission-free stock trading and direct market access to US stocks.2 Today, TradeZero’s suite of desktop, web-based and mobile software platforms ZeroPro, ZeroWeb, and ZeroFree, accommodates all types of traders from beginners to active traders.2 Headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, TradeZero employs over 10 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, TradeZero reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or around July 29, 2024, TradeZero learned of suspicious activity affecting the environment of its third-party vendor, Tawk.To.1 As a result, TradeZero launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, TradeZero determined that an unauthorized actor may have had access to personal information contained in certain files associated with customer communications that were contained on the Tawk.To platform.1 As a result, TradeZero began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Passport number
- Financial brokerage information
- Bank account information
On September 19, 2024, TradeZero began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, TradeZero is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
