Today, Local 1964 is one of the largest International Longshoremen’s Local Unions with Union Membership in states stretching from the East Coast to California and multiple other states throughout the country from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.2 Local 1964 is headquartered in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Local 1964 reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on May 28, 2024, Local 1964 experienced an encryption event that resulted in a network disruption. As a result, Local 1964 launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Local 1964 learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor between March 27 and May 27, 2024. As a result, Local 1964 began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Financial account number
- Medical information (e.g., provider name, treatment information)
- Health insurance information
On September 10, 2024, Local 1964 began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Local 1964 is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
