Headquartered in Glen Allen, Virginia, Retail Data employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Retail Data reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, Retail Data recently discovered that an unauthorized third party may have gained access to limited parts of its network. As a result, Retail Data launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Retail Data learned that sensitive personal information may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor on or about June 22, 2024. As a result, Retail Data began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Retail Data. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification number
  • Account number, credit or debit card number
  • Account passwords or personal identification numbers

 

On September 6, 2024, Retail Data began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to Maine residents, Retail Data is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
