WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Milk Source reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on October 10, 2023, Milk Source detected a network disruption and launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Milk Source learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized actor between October 9 and October 10, 2023. Milk Source began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 12, 2024, Milk Source completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Financial account number
- Health records
- Health insurance information
On August 23, 2024, Milk Source began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Milk Source is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
