ABOUT MD NOW URGENT CARE:
MD Now is a healthcare system based in Florida. Founded in 2004, MD Now provides a variety of services to individuals, including the treatment of illnesses and injuries, physical exams, lab testing, digital X-rays, EKGs, occupational health, vaccinations, and immunizations.3 Additionally, MD Now offers physicals for school, camp, sports, or work.3 Today, MD Now is a part of the HCA Florida Healthcare network, meaning MD Now patients have access to more than 570 sites of care across the state.4 HCA Florida’s approximately 77,000 colleagues and 11,000 physicians work together to provide MD Now patients with advanced care.4 Headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida, MD Now has over 110 clinics in Florida and employs over 500 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, MD Now reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on May 20, 2024, MD Now discovered a criminal cybersecurity attack on one of its IT systems. As a result, MD Now launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, MD Now learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized criminal in early May 2024. As a result, MD Now began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Government issued ID number (e.g., passport, state ID card)
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On August 9, 2024, MD Now began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, MD Now is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
