Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Goheen & Slavik CPAs, LLC (“GSCPA”) regarding its recent data breach. The GSCPA data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

GSCPA is a full-service tax and accounting firm based in Kansas. Today, GSCPA offers a variety of services, including tax planning and preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax, and other tax related services.2 Headquartered in Downs, Kansas, GSCPA has an additional location in Smith Center, Kansas.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, GSCPA reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, GSCPA recently detected a data security incident that impacted the personal information of its customers.

As a result, GSCPA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number

 

On July 22, 2024, GSCPA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, GSCPA is providing affected individuals with complimentary credit monitoring services.
