The Great Courses Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating The Teaching Company Sales, LLC, which does business as The Great Courses, regarding its recent data breach. The Great Courses is an educational content provider based in Virginia. Founded in 1990, The Great Courses offers customers more than 11,000 hours of engaging courses that can enrich and improve their life.4 Today, The Great Courses provides educational content on topics such as economics and finance, history, mathematics, professional and personal growth, travel, food, hobby and leisure, music and arts, health, fitness, and nutrition, literature and linguistics, philosophy and religion, and science. Headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia, The Great Courses employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In late November 2023, The Great Courses discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, The Great Courses determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information between November 8 and November 24, 2023. On July 16, 2024, The Great Courses began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of personal information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial account information
