Central Florida Cares Health System Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Central Florida Cares Health System, Inc. (“CFCHS”) regarding its recent data breach. The CFCHS data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT CENTRAL FLORIDA CARES HEALTH SYSTEM, INC.:

CFCHS is a not-for-profit healthcare organization based in Florida. Founded in 2012, CFCHS is contracted by the Department of Children and Families to oversee state-funded mental health and substance abuse treatment services in Circuits 9 and 18 (Brevard, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties).2  Today, CFCHS funds a service network comprised of many organizations offering various levels of treatment options.3 These options include prevention, interventions, crisis support, residential treatment and outpatient services for adults, children, as well as families, to include opioid and medication assisted treatment.3 Importantly, CFCHS is not a hospital and does not provide direct service to patients/clients/customers, but helps to make it possible for its network organizations to provide direct services.3 Headquartered in Orlando, Florida, CFCHS employs over 10 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, CFCHS discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, CFCHS determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information through an employee’s email account between April 29 and April 30, 2024. As a result, CFCHS began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
