Globe Life Data Breach Investigation

Additionally, Globe Life provides a wide range of supplemental health insurance products such as cancer insurance, ICU insurance, critical illness insurance, hospital insurance, and accident insurance. Today, Globe Life has corporate offices in five states and has multiple subsidiaries including American Income Life Insurance Company, United American Insurance Company, and Family Heritage Life Insurance Company of America.2,3 Headquartered in McKinney, Texas, Globe Life employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On June 13, 2024, Globe Life detected that there were unauthorized access attempts into its network and web portal that likely resulted in unauthorized access to certain consumer and policyholder information in its systems.1 In response, Globe Life began an investigation to determine the nature of scope of the incident. On June 14, 2024, Globe Life reported the incident in a Form 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). An SEC notice filed on October 17, 2024, shares that an unknown threat actor has attempted to extort money from Globe Life in exchange for not disclosing information relating to Globe Life and its agents.2 While the review of the information relayed by the threat actor is ongoing, Globe Life believes the information to include personally identifiable information of American Income Life Insurance Company customers.2 The type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Health-related data
- Contact information, such as phone numbers and email and postal address
- Other policy information
As Globe Life’s internal investigation is ongoing, the total number of potentially impacted persons or the full scope of information possessed by the threat actor has not been fully verified.2
