Value Health Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Benefit Management, LLC, which also does business as Value Health Benefit Administrators, regarding its recent data breach. The Benefit Management data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Benefit Management is a data-driven healthcare services company and nation-wide leader in third-party benefits administration. Accordingly, Benefit Management works with federal and state agencies to deliver custom benefits programs. Founded in 1995, Benefit Management offers its clients health plan administration, self-funded insurance, partial self-funding, population health management, small group insurance, and association health plans. Headquartered in Great Bend, Kansas, Benefit Management provides services for thousands of individuals in all 50 states.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or about April 17, 2023, Benefit Management discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Benefit Management determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through an employee’s email account between April 14 and April 17, 2023. On June 12, 2024, Benefit Management began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Benefit Management. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state-issued ID number
  • Financial account number, or credit or debit card number, with or without any required security code
