Mason Tenders’ District Council Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating the Mason Tenders’ District Council Welfare Fund, Annuity Fund, and Pension Fund regarding their recent data breach. The Mason Tenders’ District Council Welfare Fund, Annuity Fund, and Pension Fund data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 20,000 individuals.

ABOUT MASON TENDERS’ DISTRICT COUNCIL WELFARE FUND, ANNUITY FUND, AND PENSION FUND:

The Mason Tenders’ District Council is a labor organization based in New York, New York. Members of the Mason Tenders’ District Council include construction workers, asbestos and hazardous materials handlers, teachers, and recycling and waste handlers. The Mason Tenders’ District Council maintains various funds to provide benefits to its members. Included in these funds are the Mason Tenders’ District Council Welfare Fund, Annuity Fund, and Pension Fund.

The Mason Tenders’ District Council Welfare Fund is a 501(c)(9) organization created for the purpose of providing health and other benefits to eligible participants. The Mason Tenders’ District Council Annuity Fund is a multi-employer and defined contribution profit-sharing union pension that provides retirement benefits to eligible members. The Mason Tenders’ District Council Pension Fund is a defined benefit plan that provides participants with monthly retirement benefits upon reaching a certain age.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On April 17, 2022, the Mason Tenders’ District Council Funds discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its system may have been accessed. Through its investigation, the Mason Tenders’ District Council Funds determined that an unknown actor accessed this sensitive personal information between December 2, 2021, and April 18, 2022. On June 22, 2022, the Mason Tenders’ District Council Funds began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
