Central Bank of Kansas City Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Central Bank of Kansas City regarding its recent data breach. The Central Bank of Kansas City data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT CENTRAL BANK OF KANSAS CITY:

Central Bank of Kansas City is a local community bank based in Missouri. Founded in 1951, Central Bank of Kansas City offers a variety of financial products and services to individuals, including checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, IRAs, credit cards, and digital banking. Additionally, Central Bank of Kansas City provides an array of banking services to businesses such as deposit accounts, commercial loans, credit cards, digital banking, and cash management services. Today, Central Bank of Kansas City is a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), an initiative of the U.S. Treasury, which joins federal money with private sector capital to fund market-driven solutions to community-based issues.3 A CDFI works within its own local sector to help inject new sources of capital into areas and neighborhoods that normally would lack access to investment.3 Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, Central Bank of Kansas City has one additional location and employs over 10 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Central Bank of Kansas City discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Central Bank of Kansas City determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to this sensitive information through employee email accounts between January 16 and January 19, 2024. Recently, Central Bank of Kansas City began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Central Bank of Kansas City. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state-issued ID number
  • Financial account number, or credit or debit card number, with or without any required security code
