Founded in 1965, The Harris Center provides an array of services to individuals, including behavioral health services, intellectual and developmental disability services, crisis services, justice system services, community engagement, and healthcare services. Today, The Harris Center’s behavioral health services are provided in a variety of settings.2 This includes its outpatient clinics, schools, and jail, with law enforcement in the field, healthcare settings, and remote–telephone and telehealth.2 Headquartered in Houston, Texas, The Harris Center has six main locations in Houston, Texas and employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, The Harris Center discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, The Harris Center determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to this sensitive information between November 6 and November 7, 2023. As of May 28, 2024, The Harris Center has not begun notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Contact information
- Date of birth
- S. Alien Registration number
- Driver’s license or state ID number
- Financial account information
- Medical information (e.g., treatment/diagnosis information, prescription information, provider name, medical record/case number)
- Health insurance information (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid ID number, treatment cost)
