Founded in 2021, Copia Scientific prides itself as the largest non-OEM reseller of used laboratory equipment in the United States. Headquartered in Taunton, Massachusetts, Copia Scientific operates one satellite facility in San Diego, California, and conducts business throughout California, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania to serve clients globally.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On March 31, 2023, Copia Scientific discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Copia Scientific determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information on or around November 8, 2022. On May 4, 2023, Copia Scientific began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social security number
  • Driver’s license number or non-driver identification card number
  • Account number
  • Credit and/or debit card number
