Milliman Solutions Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Milliman Solutions, LLC regarding its recent data breach. The Milliman Solutions data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 1,280,000 individuals.

ABOUT MILLIMAN SOLUTIONS, LLC:

Milliman Solutions is a consulting firm specializing in risk management, benefits, and technology services. Accordingly, Milliman Solutions offers consulting tools related to employee benefits, insurance, healthcare, retirement, finances, and more. Founded in 1947, Milliman Solutions serves clients in the business, education, union, government, financial, and nonprofit industries. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Milliman Solutions operates 62 offices throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and North America.

One area in which Milliman Solutions offers its risk management services is the insurance industry. Some of Milliman Solutions’ insurance clients include MEMBERS Life Insurance Company, CMFG Life Insurance Company, and The Independent Order of Foresters. One aspect of the services Milliman Solutions offers to these life insurance companies is performing research on whether consumers have passed away. To perform this research, Milliman Services uses a third-party vendor, Pension Benefit Information, LLC (“PBI”). This research requires that Milliman Services share sensitive data about consumers with PBI.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On June 16, 2023, Milliman Solutions discovered that PBI experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to Milliman Solutions’ clients may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, PBI determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed the sensitive information belonging to Milliman Solutions’ clients through a vulnerability in the MOVEit file transfer platform used by PBI between May 29 and May 30, 2023. The Milliman Solutions clients impacted by this breach include MEMBERS Life Insurance Company, CMFG Life Insurance Company, and The Independent Order of Foresters. On July 17, 2023, PBI began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
