Located in Newark, New Jersey, Catholic Charities has over 86 programs in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union Counties.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On May 8, 2023, Catholic Charities discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Catholic Charities determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained this sensitive information between April 30 and May 8, 2023. According to a cybersecurity notice posted on its website, Catholic Charities will begin contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license information
- Health insurance information
- Medical information
