Sysmex Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLCa leading data breach law firm, is investigating Sysmex America, Inc. (“Sysmex”) regarding its recent data breach. The Sysmex data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 2,900 individuals.

Sysmex is a medical equipment manufacturer based in Illinois. Founded in 1968, Sysmex distributes and supports automated in vitro diagnostic hematology, flow cytometry, technology solutions, coagulation and urinalysis analyzers, reagents and information systems for laboratories and healthcare facilities in the Americas.2 Today, Sysmex expands the boundaries of diagnostic science, while developing tools and systems to help its customers respond to increasing demands and diminishing resources.3 Headquartered in Lincolnshire, Illinois, Sysmex has additional locations in Buffalo Grove, Vernon Hills, and Mundelein, and employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On February 23, 2024, Sysmex discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Sysmex determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between March 1 and March 3, 2024. On April 15, 2024, Sysmex began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial information (e.g., banking information, credit card information)
  • Health information
