WHAT HAPPENED?

On February 21, 2024, Change Healthcare disclosed that it was experiencing a network interruption related to a cyber security issue. “Once we became aware of the outside threat, in the interest of protecting our partners and patients, we took immediate action to disconnect our systems to prevent further impact,” Change Healthcare wrote on its incident status page.1 According to online news reports, the Change Healthcare cyber security incident has resulted in local pharmacies being unable to process prescriptions through patients’ insurance.4 As of February 22, 2024, Change Healthcare has not disclosed the specific nature of the cyber security issue or whether the incident has resulted in a data breach.
