Kaplan North America Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Kaplan North America, LLC (“Kaplan”) regarding its recent data breach. The Kaplan data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Kaplan is an educational services company based in Florida. Founded in 1938, Kaplan provides individuals, universities, and businesses with a range of educational services, including professional education courses, real estate and contractor education, test preparation, language training, corporate training, student recruitment, university support services, and more.2,3 Additionally, Kaplan serves nearly a million students and thousands of corporate and university clients.3 Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Kaplan employs over 10,000 individuals and operates in 28 countries.3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Kaplan reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Kaplan discovered an incident involving unauthorized access to its computer network.1 As a result, Kaplan launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Kaplan confirmed that sensitive personal information in its network may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between October 30 and November 18, 2025. As a result, Kaplan began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number

 

On March 17, 2026, Kaplan began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Kaplan is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
