WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Ericsson reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on April 28, 2025, a service provider for Ericsson became aware of a suspicious event that may have involved potential unauthorized access to certain data on the service provider’s system.1 As a result, the service provider for Ericsson launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, the service provider confirmed to Ericsson that sensitive personal information in its care may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party between April 17 and April 22, 2025. As a result, Ericsson began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On February 23, 2026, Ericsson completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:6

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Government-issued ID number (passport, state ID card)
  • Financial information (account number, credit or debit card number)
  • Medical information

On March 9, 2026, Ericsson began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
