Founded in 1971, Valley Radiology provides a range of medical diagnostic imaging services to patients, including mammography, x-rays, lung cancer screenings, ultrasound, MRIs, CT scans, and more.2,3,4 Headquartered in Poway, California, Valley Radiology employs over 50 individuals and operates three additional locations in Escondido, California.3,5
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Valley Radiology reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around September 15, 2025, Valley Radiology detected suspicious activity on its computer systems.1 As a result, Valley Radiology launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Valley Radiology confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems related to its patients may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Valley Radiology began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. As of March 5, 2026, the exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Valley Radiology. However, according to California state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number, California identification card number, tax identification number, passport number, military identification number, or other unique identification number issued on a government document
- Account number or credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
- Unique biometric data such as a fingerprint, retina, or iris image, used to authenticate a specific individual
- Information or data collected through the use or operation of an automated license plate recognition system
- Genetic data
On February 26, 2026, Valley Radiology began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, Valley Radiology is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
