Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating TAK Broadband, LLC (“TAK”) regarding its recent data breach. The TAK data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 20,600 individuals.
ABOUT TAK BROADBAND, LLC:
TAK is a broadband network construction company based in South Dakota. Founded in 2004, TAK performs a range of broadband network services, including fiber and broadband construction services, broadband connectivity, on-premises technology deployment, and door-to-door sales marketing.2,3 Customers served by TAK range from internet service providers to municipalities, private equity, tribal communities, cooperatives, and carriers.2 Headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, TAK employs over 3,000 individuals and has a business presence in over 40 U.S. states.2
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, TAK announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on August 11, 2025, TAK became aware of suspicious activity in its network environment impacting certain systems.1 As a result, TAK launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, TAK confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between August 2 and August 12, 2025. As a result, TAK began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state identification number
- Passport number
- Biometric data
- Date of birth
- Payment card information
- Financial account information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the breach, TAK posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, on February 19, 2026, TAK began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, TAK is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
