WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, RMA of Michigan announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on October 22, 2025, RMA of Michigan became aware of suspicious activity within its network.1 As a result, RMA of Michigan launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident. Through its ongoing investigation, RMA of Michigan has confirmed that sensitive personal information in its network may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, RMA of Michigan has begun a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected.
Additionally, on December 19, 2025, RMA of Michigan filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.5 Though much information is still not known about the RMA of Michigan breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the RMA of Michigan breach included the protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.
On December 19, 2025, RMA of Michigan posted notice of the breach on its website. Based on the website breach notice, RMA of Michigan will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
