Mercadien Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Mercadien PC Certified Public Accountants (“Mercadien”) regarding its recent data breach. The Mercadien data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Mercadien is an accounting and financial advisory firm based in New Jersey. Founded in 1963, Mercadien provides a range of accounting and financial advisory services to businesses and individuals, including audit and financial reporting, tax compliance and planning, compliance oversight, risk management, outsources accounting and CFO services, mergers and acquisitions advisory, and more.2,3 Industries services by Mercadien include private companies, government entities, financial institutions, nonprofits, automotive, construction and real estate, manufacturing, etc.2,3 Headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, Mercadien employs over 50 individuals.3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Mercadien announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or about November 7, 2025, Mercadien discovered a data incident which may have affected the information of certain individuals.1 As a result, Mercadien launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

In the breach notice shared on its website, Mercadien does not elaborate on the nature of the security incident. In response to the breach, Mercadien began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license/government ID numbers
  • Financial account information
  • Username and passwords
  • IRS pin numbers
  • Payment card information

 

As a result of the breach, Mercadien posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, on December 1, 2025, Mercadien began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice and the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Mercadien will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted.
