Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Abri Credit Union (“Abri”) regarding its recent data breach. The Abri data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Abri is a not-for-profit, member owned, financial cooperative based in Illinois. Founded in 1949, Abri offers a variety of financial products and services to individuals, such as debit and credit cards, checking and savings accounts, personal and auto loans, mortgages, retirement and investment services, and online banking. WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Abri announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice posted on its website, Abri recently learned that an unauthorized party had gained access to certain of its systems.1 As a result, Abri launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Abri confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between May 3 and May 4, 2024. As a result, Abri began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:1
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state ID number
- Financial account information
- Payment card number
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
- Digital signature
- Birth/marriage certificate
On December 30, 2025, Abri began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Abri is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
