Sentinel Security Life Insurance Company Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Sentinel Security Life announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on April 15, 2025, Sentinel Security Life discovered suspicious network activity.1 As a result, Sentinel Security Life launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Sentinel Security Life confirmed that sensitive personal information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized third party between April 7 and April 15, 2025. As a result, Sentinel Security Life began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On or about December 17, 2025, Sentinel Security Life completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:1,4

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Individual taxpayer identification number
  • Financial account information
  • Date of birth
  • Medical information
  • Treatment information
  • Health insurance policy number
  • Health insurance information

 

On December 23, 2025, Sentinel Security Life posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, on December 30, 2025, Sentinel Security Life began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Sentinel Security Life is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
