Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Aultman Health System (“Aultman”) regarding its recent data breach. The Aultman data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.
ABOUT AULTMAN HEALTH SYSTEM:
Aultman is a healthcare network based in Ohio. Founded in 1892, Aultman provides a range of healthcare services to patients, including healthcare treatment related to back and spine, birthing, critical care, cancer, mental health, surgical services, imaging, and more.2,3,4 Hospitals that are a part of the Aultman network include Aultman Hospital, Aultman Alliance Community Hospital, and Aultman Orrville Hospital.1 Headquartered in Canton, Ohio, Aultman employs over 7,000 individuals and offers over 1,000 hospital beds across its locations.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Aultman announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, Aultman learned that an unauthorized third party gained access to and obtained data that was maintained by Cerner, a third-party electronic health record (EHR) vendor used by Aultman.1 As a result, Cerner launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Cerner confirmed to Aultman that sensitive personal information on legacy Cerner systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party as early as January 22, 2025. As a result, Aultman began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Patient medical records (medical record numbers, diagnoses, medicines, test results, images, care and treatment)
As a result of the breach, Aultman posted notice of the breach on its website. Based on the website breach notice, Aultman is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
