WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, JFCS East Bay reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or about October 2, 2025, an electronic database system used by JFCS East Bay’s Immigration Legal team, Cerenade, was accessed by unauthorized persons.1 As a result, Cerenade launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Cerenade confirmed to JFCS East Bay that sensitive personal information in Cerenade service platforms related to JFCS East Bay clients may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, JFCS East Bay began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Passport number
On December 4, 2025, JFCS East Bay began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, JFCS East Bay is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
