Shields is a facilities services company based in Pennsylvania. Founded in 2011, Shields provides a range of facilities maintenance programs for retail, food service, financial, healthcare, and parking related clients, including interior and exterior painting, project management, remodels, parking lot services, snow and ice management, landscaping, power washing, janitorial maintenance, and more.2 Additionally, Shields offers clients with a selection of business and customer relation solutions, such as front-end/back-end technology, client-centric solution development, etc.2,3 Companies serviced by Shields include Starbucks, Target, CVS Pharmacy, PNC Bank, Grainger, Pet Smart, 7/11, and others.2 Headquartered in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, Shields employs over 50 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Shields reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around January 28, 2025, Shields identified that certain of its systems were encrypted by malware.1 As a result, Shields launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Shields confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized third party between January 28 and January 30, 2025.As a result, Shields began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Employer identification number
- Tax identification number
On December 9, 2025, Shields began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, Shields is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
