Cape Cod Five Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Cape Cod Five, also known as Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank (“Cape Cod Five”), regarding its recent data breach. The Cape Cod Five data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT CAPE COD FIVE A/K/A CAPE COD FIVE CENTS SAVINGS BANK:

Cape Cod Five is a community bank based in Massachusetts. Founded in 1855, Cape Cod Five provides a range of financial services to individuals and businesses, including checking and savings accounts, mortgages, personal loans, business loans, investment management, and more.2,3 Headquartered in Hyannis, Massachusetts, Cape Cod Five employs over 500 individuals and operates 25 locations or ATMs in Massachusetts.3,4

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Marquis Software Solutions (“Marquis”), a third-party vendor for Cape Cod Five, reported to the Attorney General of Maine on behalf of Cape Cod Five that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on August 14, 2025, Marquis detected suspicious activity on its network and determined that it had experienced a ransomware attack.1 As a result, Marquis launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Marquis confirmed to Cape Cod Five that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Marquis began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Taxpayer identification number
  • Financial account information without security or access codes
  • Date of birth

On November 26, 2025, Marquis began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals on behalf of Cape Cod Five. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Cape Cod Five and Marquis are providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services. A link to the breach notification letters that Cape Cod Five filed with the Attorney General of Maine is below.
