Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating National University of Natural Medicine (“NUNM”) regarding its recent data breach. The NUNM data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

NUNM is a naturopathic medical school based in Oregon. Founded in 1956, NUNM offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs in natural medicine disciplines, including naturopathic medicine, nutrition, global health, integrative health sciences, and more.2,3,4 Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, NUNM employs over 200 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, NUNM reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or about July 29, 2025, NUNM learned that an unauthorized individual gained access to an employee email account.1 As a result, NUNM launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, NUNM confirmed that sensitive personal information in the emails may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party between July 22 and July 29, 2025. As a result, NUNM began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:5
- Name
- Social Security number
On November 26, 2025, NUNM began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, NUNM is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted complimentary credit monitoring services.
