Founded in 1985, Tocqueville serves high-net-worth individuals and families, family offices, institutions, and clients invested through its mutual funds.3 Today, Tocqueville’s services cover asset management, family and estate planning, integrated planning, private banking, international client services, and record keeping.4 Headquartered in New York, New York, Tocqueville has an additional location in Vero Beach, Florida, and employs over 100 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Tocqueville reported to the Attorney General of Montana that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on February 18, 2024, Tocqueville learned of alleged unauthorized activity on its computer network.1 As a result, Tocqueville launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Tocqueville confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party between January 5, 2024, and February 18, 2024. As a result, Tocqueville began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Financial account information
- Driver’s license number
On November 13, 2025, Tocqueville began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Montana residents, Tocqueville is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
