WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, CJMC announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on August 25, 2025, an external party gained access to the CJMC dental servers’ network and downloaded ransomware that was used to encrypt files on the network.1 As a result, CJMC launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, CJMC confirmed that the sensitive personal information and protected health information in its network may have been accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized third party during the breach.1 As a result, CJMC began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Demographic information (date of birth, address, telephone number or email address, race or ethnicity)
- Dental record number
- Health insurance information
- Treatment information (dental diagnoses, treatment history, billing information)
As a result of the breach, CJMC posted notice of the data breach to its website. Based on the website breach notice, CJMC is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the website breach notice is below.
