Starke is an insurance brokerage and risk management company based in Alabama. Founded in 1929, Starke offers various services such as business insurance, home insurance, life insurance, and auto insurance.2 Headquartered in Montogomery, Alabama, Starke employs over 10 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Starke announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Starke learned that an unauthorized individual obtained access to three employee email accounts.1 As a result, Starke launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, on August 25, 2025, Starke confirmed that sensitive personal information in the emails may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between July 11, 2024, and September 10, 2024. As a result, Starke began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account information
- Payment card information
- Geolocation data
- Health insurance information
- Medical information
- Email account login information
On October 10, 2025, Starke posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, on October 9, 2025, Starke began mailing breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice, Starke is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
