Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Fairmont Federal Credit Union (“FFCU”) regarding its recent data breach. The FFCU data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

FFCU is a not-for-profit credit union based in West Virginia.3 Founded in 1939, FFCU provides a range of financial services to individuals and businesses, including checking and savings accounts, credit and debit cards, home and auto loans, investment property loans, student loans, mobile banking, and more.2,3 Headquartered in Fairmont, West Virginia, FFCU employs over 120 individuals and operates 9 regional branches in West Virginia.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, FFCU experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice posted on its website, on January 23, 2024, FFCU became aware that it had experienced a data security incident.1 As a result, FFCU launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, FFCU confirmed that the sensitive personal information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between September 30 and October 18, 2023.1 As a result, FFCU began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 17, 2025, FFCU completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Driver’s license number or State ID number
- Financial account information (account number, routing number, institution name)
- Credit/debit card information (card number, security code/PIN, expiration date)
- IRS PIN
- Medical information (treatment /diagnosis, prescriptions, provider name, MRN/patient ID)
- Health insurance information (Medicare/Medicaid number, health insurance policy/subscriber number, treatment costs)
- Full access credentials
- Security questions and answers
- Digital signatures
As a result, FFCU posted notice of the data breach to its website. Additionally, on September 11, 2025, began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice being sent to California residents, FFCU is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services. 4 A link to the website data breach notice is below.
