Conference USA is a collegiate sports conference based in Texas.3 Founded in 1995, Conference USA sponsors collegiate competition for its university members across 19 men’s and women’s sports, including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, softball, track and field, etc.4 Additionally, Conference USA provides support to its student-athlete members through academic honors and volunteer service opportunities.4 Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Conference USA employs over 10 individuals and has a league membership of 12 universities across the US.3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Conference USA reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on June 22, 2024, Conference USA learned that an unauthorized party gained access to parts of its networks.1 As a result, Conference USA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Conference USA confirmed that the sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party on or about June 22, 2024.1 As a result, Conference USA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 20, 2025, Conference USA completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes: 5

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number

 

On September 9, 2025, Conference USA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
