Recently, Zelis Healthcare discovered that it had experienced a privacy incident in which sensitive protected health information may have been accessed. On August 12, 2025, Zelis Healthcare filed official notice of the privacy incident with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights. Though much information is still not known about the Zelis Healthcare privacy incident, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data incidents when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the Zelis Healthcare incident included the protected health information belonging to over 4,200 individuals.
