Founded in 1919, Hiller provides products and services aimed at preventing and mitigating fires in facilities ranging from small businesses to aircraft carriers and offshore platforms.3 These Hiller products and services include inspections, routine and emergency maintenance for fire suppression, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers and recharging services, hoses, fire resistant clothing, and respiratory equipment. 3 Headquartered in Mobile, Alabama, Hiller employs over 1,000 individuals and operates locally with offices in 12 U.S. states. 3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Hiller reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Hiller recently learned that some personal information may have been involved in a data security incident.1 As a result, Hiller launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Hiller confirmed that a malicious encryption operated by an unauthorized party copied files from its network on or about December 18, 2024. As a result, Hiller began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On June 13, 2025, Hiller completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s License number
- Unique government-issued identification number
- Passport number
- Financial account information
- Payment card number
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On August 25, 2025, Hiller began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Vermont residents, Hiller is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
