WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Tabb reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data security incident in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on August 14, 2024, Tabb was alerted that a database where it stored data related to background checks it conducted on its clients’ behalf was publicly discoverable. 1 As a result, Tabb launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, on October 25, 2024, Tabb confirmed that sensitive personal information in its database belonging to its business partner, Clifton Public Library, was not secured and may have been accessed by unauthorized individuals prior to August 14, 2024. As a result, Tabb began a review of the data to determine what information had been publicly available as well as identify the specific individuals who may have been affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
Recently, Tabb began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Tabb is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the breach report filed by the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is below.
