WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, online sources reported that Avantic Medical Lab had experienced a cyberattack resulting in a data breach. According to these reports, on June 10, 2025, a hacker group added a listing for Avantic Medical Lab to its leak site, accompanied by four screenshots containing patient information as proof of its hacking claims.1 On July 3, 2025, the hacker group leaked 31 GB of patient files.1 The types of information that may have been exposed varies, but may have included:1
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Telephone number
- Date of birth
- Medical information (e.g., medical record number, referring doctor, date of blood draw, type of tests, results of blood tests, diagnosis(es)
- Health insurance information (e.g., insurance provider, employer of group name, policy number, member ID, claim ID, covered member’s name, correspondence from insurer)
- Check information if patient paid by check
- Credit card number with expiration date and CVV
As of July 9, 2025, Avantic Medical Lab has not commented on or confirmed whether it has suffered a data breach.
