WHAT HAPPENED?
On July 10, 2025, Mountain Laurel Dermatology announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised.1 According to the breach notice posted on its website, on May 12, 2025, Mountain Laurel Dermatology became aware of unusual activity involving one of its external cloud-based network systems.1 As a result, Mountain Laurel Dermatology launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Mountain Laurel Dermatology confirmed that sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party. 3 As a result, Mountain Laurel Dermatology began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. According to the breach notice, the sensitive personal information potentially affected includes the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Medical Information (test results, medical treatment information, diagnosis information)
- Date of birth
- Insurance claim information
- Billing information
