Surmodics Data Security Investigation

ABOUT SURMODICS, INC.:

Surmodics is a medical equipment manufacturer based in Minnesota. Founded in 1979, Surmodics specializes in surface modification technologies for intravascular medical devices and chemical components for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) immunoassay tests and microarrays.2 Accordingly, Surmodics serves as a link between biotech and medical device companies to create unique drug/device combination products.3 Headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Surmodics has additional locations in Minnesota and Ireland and employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On June 5, 2025, Surmodics discovered that a third-party threat actor had gained unauthorized access to certain of its information technology systems and that certain IT systems and data were unavailable to Surmodics.1 In response, Surmodics initiated containment measures and launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident. On June 5, 2025, Surmodics reported the incident in a Form 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. As of July 2, 2025, Surmodics’ investigation is ongoing and further details have not been made publicly available by Surmodics.
