Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Community Choice Credit Union (“CCCU”) regarding its recent data breach. The CCCU data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 8,400 individuals.1

CCCU is a credit union based in Colorado. Established in 1952, CCCU provides share draft accounts, new & used auto loans, recreational vehicle loans and more.2 Headquartered in Commerce City, Colorado, CCCU has an additional office in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.2
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, CCCU reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on May 28, 2025, CCCU experienced a cybersecurity incident in which someone encrypted files on CCCU’s computer network.1 As a result, CCCU launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, CCCU confirmed that sensitive personal information from its network may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party on or about May 25, 2025.1 As a result, CCCU began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Community Choice account number
Recently, CCCU began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, CCCU is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the form breach notification letters that CCCU filed with the Attorney General of Maine is below.
