Electronics for Imaging Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Electronics for Imaging, Inc (“EFI”) regarding its recent data breach. The EFI data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 4,400 individuals.5

ABOUT ELECTRONICS FOR IMAGING, INC.:

EFI is a printing services company based in New Hampshire.3 Founded in 1989, EFI provides technologies for the manufacturing of packaging, sign and display graphics, and textiles with a range of industrial printers, inks, and software. 2,3 Headquartered Londonderry, New Hampshire, EFI has additional locations in North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, India, and Asia and employs over 1,000 individuals.4

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, EFI reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on May 22, 2025, EFI became aware that personal information may have been contained within files that may have been subject to unauthorized access following a cyber incident. 1 As a result, EFI launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, EFI determined that their network had been subject to unauthorized access between September 17, 2024, and October 1, 2024, and that copies of certain files may have been taken from their network.1 As a result, EFI began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by EFI. However, according to the Vermont reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or other government issued ID card numbers (e.g., individual taxpayer ID number, passport number, military ID card number)
  • Financial account number or credit or debit card number
  • Unique biometric data (e.g., fingerprint, retina or iris image, or other unique biometric representation)
  • Genetic information
  • Health record or records of a wellness program or similar program of health promotion or disease prevention (e.g., healthcare professional’s medical diagnosis or treatment of the consumer, health insurance policy number)

Recently, EFI began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Vermont residents, EFI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the form breach notification letters that EFI filed with the Attorney General of Vermont is below.
