WHAT HAPPENED?
On June 20, 2025, Aflac reported in a Form 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission that it had identified unauthorized access to its network.1 On the same day, Aflac announced on its website that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed.1 As a result, Aflac launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Aflac confirmed that sensitive personal information and protected health information may have been viewed by an unauthorized third party on June 12, 2025. As a result, Aflac began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected.1 While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Health insurance information
- Employment records
- Claims information
