HomeTrust Mortgage Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating HomeTrust Mortgage Company (“HomeTrust Mortgage”) regarding its recent data breach. The HomeTrust Mortgage data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 2,000 individuals.

HomeTrust Mortgage is a provider of mortgage lending services to customers in Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and New Mexico. Founded in 1986, HomeTrust Mortgages integrated operation includes in-house processing, underwriting, and closing, serving borrowers across a range of loan types such as fixed and adjustable-rate mortgages, FHA, VA, USDA, and Jumbo loans.2 Headquartered in Houston, Texas, HomeTrust Mortgage has approximately 180 employees.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, HomeTrust Mortgage reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around October 28, 2024, HomeTrust Mortgage experienced a network disruption.1 As a result, HomeTrust Mortgage launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, on November 18, 2024, HomeTrust Mortgage determined that certain files may have been accessed and acquired without authorization during the breach.1 As a result, HomeTrust Mortgage began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number

 

On June 16, 2025, HomeTrust Mortgage began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, HomeTrust Mortgage is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
